Off Season VideoTrailer - All Work, Little Play

Here is an excellent video that captures some of the weekly training performed by the Phoenix/Firebird program.

Here is a version that is a little longer.

Video courtesy of Yvan Abel. This is not the finished product, and I can't wait for the final showing!

Pretty freaken amazing...nice to see the ladies out too.

Ultimate has changed so much in the past 5 or so years, I really wonder how the stars of yester-years would handle the training regimes of today...I imagine they could do it, but I wonder if players like Kenny Dobyns would be as big a name in the game now as he was then.

I think I'd have to say, yes. If you ever saw the kind of athletic ultimate player Ken was combined with his skill level I have no doubt he'd be just as 'big' these days.

I just saw this on youtube.
Just as applicable today.

I remember watching this video when we were in high school.

I would imagine the stars of yester-years were probably working hard to be in shape to play. I think it's more that now instead everyone has to be doing something, not just the best of the best. It's getting to a point where showing up slow and out of shape in May and playing yourself into shape through a few tournaments isn't enough to be competitive.

Only two of those ladies at the dojo were women's ultimate players. Most of them were national level kayakers, rugby players, basketball players, and so on.

Obviously all of you have sparked some interest with this debate about Dobyns, so I had to make a post about it.

Love the links. Thanks.
