Quick update on our young stars:
- Canada is 5-1 in womens play after a 17-12 loss to Japan. The team squandered a 2-0 lead and was unable to come back. Canada's next game is against Ireland (2-4 record) before heading to the playoffs.
- Canada's mens squad is an impressive 6-0 and has enjoyed balanced scoring throughout the roster. Their next match is a quarterfinal match up with Switzerland.

Well, "squander" might be too strong a word for losing a one-break lead. I do wish I could see what the turnover rate was, but still . . . let he who has never lost a break cast the first stone.
Now, one thing I find very interesting is the markedly different "Goals Against" column between Open pools A & B. The obvious fact that Pool B played more games does not by itself explain the difference, because (with no insult intended) everyone in that pool went virtually unscathed by Slovakia. Games in pool B were 2.5 pts closer (on average) than in pool A over 21 matches.
And if you look at some of the some of the individual matches, you can appreciate just how much tighter pool B was than pool A. Japan(B1) edged out GB(B2) just 17-15, and still only beat Finland(B5) 17-13. GB(B2) beat Finland(B5) by the slim margin on 16-15.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the pools intermix in the playoffs.
